I have lost my passport.  What should I do ?
Report of the loss

If your passport has been lost or stolen you should immediately report it to the nearest Police Station and forward a copy of the police report to the Controller General of Immigration & Emigration. If applying for a fresh passport, this police report must be submitted along with the application form.

Fine for loss of a valid passport (M series passports are considered valid for 10 years from the date of issue)
A fine of Rs. 10,000.00 will be imposed.

Who can attest a passport application ?
  1. Justice of the Peace
  2. An officer of Sri Lanka Administrative Service, Education Administrative Service, Accountant Service, Planning Service OR Engineering Service
  3. Attorney at Law
  4. Qualified Medical Practitioner
  5. A Commissioned officer in Sri Lanka Army/ Navy/Air force or Police
  6. OIC of the Police Station of the area
  7. Grama Niladhari / Samurdhi Manager / Social Service Officer of the area.
  8. A Post Master/ A Principal of School/ A Labor Officer
  9. An Estate Superintendent
  10. Assistant Controllers, Authorized Officers and Enforcement Officers of the Department of immigration and Emigration.
  11. Chief Incumbent of a religious mission (Temple, Church, Mosque or Kovil).

Mattala Rajapaksa International Airport (MRIA)

The country’s 2nd International Airport, Mattala Rajapaksa International Airport commenced operation with the landing of a Sri Lankan flight with president onboard.

The Department of Immigration & Emigration too took all necessary steps to fulfill Immigration & Emigration formalities at MRIA.

Dual Citizenship

The Department of Immigration and Emigration highly appreciate the applicants who applied the dual citizenship with concentration on delivering their valuable commitment to Sri Lanka.

Due to the suspension of awarding dual citizenship temporarily, it is unable to proceed some received applications.

However, the department would like to inform the applicants who did not receive the certificates will be considered under the new scheme. (The  new scheme will be introduced end of this year.)
