General Provisions for Sri Lankan Citizenship
Citizenship division offers you the services of registering as Sri Lankan citizen, a Sri Lanka Dual Citizen or registering your overseas born child/ children

Applications accepted at Citizenship Division (Level 02) at the Department of Immigration and Emigration Head Office.

Application acceptance Hours:    Monday to Friday except Public Holidays.
Applications for Birth Registration are accepted from 09.00 a.m. to 02.30 p.m.

Special Provisions for Sri Lankan Citizenship
Indo - Lanka Citizenship Division offers the services of

  1. Issuing certificates confirming the Srilankan citizenship to persons of Indian Origin, under the provisions of acts no; 39 of 1988 & no; 35 of 2003.
  2. Granting citizenship to the persons of  of Chinese origin, under the provisions of act no; 38 of 2008.
Applications accepted at Indo - Lanka Citizenship Division (Level 04) at the Department of Immigration and Emigration Head Office.

Working Hours :    Monday to Friday except Public Holidays.
Applications for Citizenship confermation certificates/ Registration are accepted from 09.00 a.m. to 03.00p.m.

Mattala Rajapaksa International Airport (MRIA)

The country’s 2nd International Airport, Mattala Rajapaksa International Airport commenced operation with the landing of a Sri Lankan flight with president onboard.

The Department of Immigration & Emigration too took all necessary steps to fulfill Immigration & Emigration formalities at MRIA.

Dual Citizenship

The Department of Immigration and Emigration highly appreciate the applicants who applied the dual citizenship with concentration on delivering their valuable commitment to Sri Lanka.

Due to the suspension of awarding dual citizenship temporarily, it is unable to proceed some received applications.

However, the department would like to inform the applicants who did not receive the certificates will be considered under the new scheme. (The  new scheme will be introduced end of this year.)


 
Migrant Accommodating Center

The Department of Immigration and Emigration has been maintaining its Migrant accommodating center for accommodating foreign nationals who violate visa conditions in Sri Lanka since 1987.
