SRI LANKA IMMIGRAION BORDER CONTROL SYSTEM LINKS UP WITH INTERPOL

In a land mark development taking our border security to new highest, Sri Lanka Immigration has linked online real time  with INTERPOL database systems. The new system, launched by the Secretary Defense today (11th June 2012)  will enable immigration officers to check all arriving and departing passengers against INTERPOL Stolen and Lost Travel Document Database and details of international criminals with online and real time basis.

Information enables immigration officer at an airport or sea port to check instantly whether a travel document is stolen or lost or the person is known international criminal. The project expected to greatly enhance the border security of Sri Lanka.


The project was initiated by the Ministry of Defense was implemented by the Department of Immigration and Emigration with Sri Lanka Police. The project management was carried out by the international Organization for Migration (IOM) and was funded by the Government of Canada through its global Counter-Terrorism Capacity Building programme.

The country’s 2nd International Airport, Mattala Rajapaksa International Airport commenced operation with the landing of a Sri Lankan flight with president onboard.

Dual Citizenship

The Department of Immigration and Emigration highly appreciate the applicants who applied the dual citizenship with concentration on delivering their valuable commitment to Sri Lanka.

Due to the suspension of awarding dual citizenship temporarily, it is unable to proceed some received applications.

However, the department would like to inform the applicants who did not receive the certificates will be considered under the new scheme. (The  new scheme will be introduced end of this year.)


 
Migrant Accommodating Center

The Department of Immigration and Emigration has been maintaining its Migrant accommodating center for accommodating foreign nationals who violate visa conditions in Sri Lanka since 1987.
