Visa Facilitation Measures for Foreign Nationals Affected by Adverse Weather Conditions

The Department of Immigration and Emigration informs all foreign nationals that special visa facilitation measures have been introduced for those affected by the adverse weather conditions currently prevailing in Sri Lanka.

  • Foreigners who were scheduled to depart Sri Lanka on or after 28th November, but were unable to do so due to flight cancellations or travel difficulties caused by the weather, will be exempted from visa extension fees and overstay penalties. This measure is intended to support travelers who experienced unavoidable delays beyond their control.
  • Foreign nationals who wish to obtain their first extension of a Tourist Visa may do so conveniently through the Department’s online portal:
  • In addition, Short-Term Business Visa holders and Residence Visa holders will be granted an extra seven (07) days’ grace period to complete their visa extension formalities

Affected travelers are kindly requested to retain and present any supporting documents, such as airline notifications or evidence of travel disruption when required for verification.

The Department will continue to monitor the situation and issue further updates as necessary.
